ST. LAWRENCE, N.L. —

St. Lawrence’s Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps (RCSCC) 269 Endeavour held its 40th annual ceremonial review on May 12 at St. Lawrence Academy.

During the ACR, 26 cadets paraded on deck. The day began with colours and then the arrival of the reviewing party.

After a skit during the Fun Display portion of the ACR, some Newfoundland music was played and cadets danced around the gym. Pictured, CPO1 Hannah Lambe and reviewing officer Sgt (Ret). Kevin Flannigan have a scuff. Emma Curtis photo

The Reviewing Officer was resident of St. Lawrence and former member of Canadian Armed Forces, and current member of Royal Canadian Branch 58 in Lawn Sergeant Retired Kevin Flannigan.

Also part of the reviewing party, vice-president of local branch of Navy League of Canada Mrs. Krista Pelley and Commanding Officer Lt(N) Tom Edwards.

Cadets showcased four statics (marksmanship, sail, physical fitness and seamanship), and a memories board was on display. Cadets explained things like parts of rifle, parts of a sail boat, living a healthy lifestyle and basic knots.

Cadets then carried on with three active displays: Ceremony of the Flags, a section of that display focused on Endeavour 40th training year. The drill team display, the same display that advanced to provincial drill competition in April. The final display was a fun display where cadets dressed in fishing clothes and performed a small skit and invited guests and grade six students to dance.

Just before Sunset ceremony, there were three medals presented on deck.

The Legion Medal of Excellence was won by Chief Petty First Class Hannah Lambe, the Lord Strathcona Trust Medal Fund was won by Chief Petty Officer Second Class Danny Brinson and the Navy League Medal of Excellence was presented to Chief Petty Officer First Class Hannah Lambe.

Both Lambe and Brinson are sixth-year cadets and were presented with retirement gifts.

Lambe spoke to those at the banquet and became very emotional.

“When I turned 12 I made the best decision in my life and that was to join cadets, now I don’t want it to end. In fact I will be returning in the fall to finish my cadet career,” she said.
