BAY ROBERTS, N.L. —

A youth who reportedly attempted to flee from police while driving past his curfew in Bay Roberts was arrested earlier this week.

According to a news release, on May 28 at approximately 2:20 a.m., Bay Roberts RCMP were on patrol in the town of Bay Roberts and observed a vehicle go through a red light at an intersection.

The vehicle then accelerated, travelling at a high rate of speed through the community. Police attempted to catch up to the driver, who continued to travel in a dangerous manner and led police to a residence in Clarke’s Beach.

The youth departed the vehicle and ran into a residence and was arrested on scene. The youth faces criminal charges of flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and a number of charges under the Highway Traffic Act.

Police seized and impounded the vehicle and issued a driver’s licence suspension. It was determined that the young offender was a newly licensed driver and was operating a vehicle past the 12 o'clock curfew.
