Search successful for overdue South Branch snowmobiler

SOUTH BRANCH, N.L. —

A 72-year-old man from South Branch was found safe after he didn’t return from a snowmobiling trip as expected Friday, March 15.

According to a RCMP release, the Port aux Basques RCMP were notified of the situation around 10:30 p.m. The man had done snowmobiling alone in the South Branch area around 11:00 a.m. that morning and was last heard from around 6:30 p.m.

Officers from Port aux Basques and Bay St. George RCMP, the Stephenville/Kippens/Port au Port Search and Rescue, and friends and family of the man were all involved in a search to find him.

He was located by search and rescue around 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon and removed from the area, the release notes.
